Let the homestead journey begin!
Log Cabin Fever Farm began as a dream when the Hughes family first moved from the city in 2023. Soon, the space and land offered by the property led to opportunity for raising animals and gardens. Using principles of permaculture, we find that we can raise and grow many things we use daily, beginning right out the front door. The goal of Log Cabin Fever Farm is healthy and simple living, working with God’s creation, to steward every resource provided to us, sharing the abundance with others.
What we do.
We started raising registered pygmy goats, and now raise Nigerian Dwarf goats that accomplish so much in their compact size. They clear brush and weeds, offer companionship, provide milk and meat, and make great pets or show animals for 4-H'ers.
We also raise Californian rabbits for meat. This breed does very well at county fairs for local 4-H’ers in show or market.
Our animals are fed a diet of natural forage, supplemented with hay, organic grains and free-choice minerals from kelp.
Chickens are here! We have dual-purpose Buff Orpington laying hens, along with a couple “bonus” chickens from the hatchery, and Cornish Cross broilers. Fresh eggs and chicken pot pie are on the table! Next spring we plan to experiment with a new broiler chicken from a local hatchery.
Now planted are pear, apple and cherry trees and blackberry and raspberry bushes for harvest next year. Our vegetable garden beds are small and likely yield a limited harvest. However, as our confidence and experience grows, so will our bounty.
